We are making our 2012 Big Tree Block Pinot Noir available to key accounts for the first time since our 2001 single blocks were last available to the market. Due to replanting our estate vineyard in 1998 to 2011, our single block production has ranged from limited to none. Now, mature and back in full production, we are pleased to share these limited production and distinct expressions of our extraordinary estate vineyard blocks in custom six-bottle wooden boxes. Near the original family home on the estate there was a giant maple tree. As the vineyard grew, the large root system of the tree began to compete with the fledgling vines, and eventually the tree had to go. So, in the tradition of all of our blocks, this was named “Big Tree Block” in honor of the giant tree that used to watch over that block. Big Tree Block is planted to the Pommard and Dijon 777 clones in the famous clay loam Jory soil. Our 2012 Big Tree Block Pinot Noir is balanced and features dense, dark red fruit, and round tannins, followed by notes of orange peel and a long and persistent finish. VINTAGE HIGHLIGHTS “This was a great vintage. Period. I will likely never see another vintage like this in my lifetime,” says Winemaker Alex Sokol Blosser. “Growing & harvest conditions were ideal as we had a cool, wet spring with a dry, warm summer.”
