There is a long history between Sokol Blosser and Hyland Vineyards. The previous owners of Hyland Vineyards used to be part owners of Sokol Blosser Winery, and that ownership ended in 1997 when we bought the remaining shares from both Hyland and Durant Vineyards. We have continued to buy grapes from Hyland Vineyards from the mid-1970s to 2015.
Roughly 60% of this fruit was fermented in our brand new oak upright fermenters built by the local cooper Rick Deferrari. Fermenting in oak provides a different fermentation curve from the standard stainless steel fermentations without imparting flavors directly extracted from the oak just as in stainless steel. All of the Hyland Pinot Noir was pressed at dryness to capture the bright fruit flavors developed during fermentation.
